NASCAR is coming back to Ohio after a three-year hiatus.

The new race will be part of the Nationwide Series, considered NASCAR’s minor league, and will be held at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, near Mansfield.

“We’ve always known we have a huge fan base here,” says NASCAR vice president Steve O’Donnell.

“We had the opportunity with a race opening up on the Nationwide calendar, you’ve got a great market, you’ve got Nationwide as the sponsor, you’ve got Ohio State close by. So for us, this was a big opportunity to bring a race to Mid-Ohio.”

The new race is scheduled for next August 13th. It will be the first NASCAR-sanctioned event in Ohio since a truck race left the Mansfield Motorsports Park in 2008.
