Former Schools Resource Officer Stays In Jail On Sex Charges
A judge has ordered a former central Ohio school resource officer to stay in jail while awaiting trial on charges that he coerced sexual behavior from two teens at the high school where he worked.
A federal judge called officer Todd Smith’s alleged actions “violence of the worst sort” after listening Thursday to a prosecutor and FBI agent read sexually graphic text messages Smith exchanged with two 15-year-old girls at a Columbus high school.
Smith has pleaded not guilty. His attorney, Sam Shamansky, asked that his client be released on bond, which the judge denied.
An FBI agent testified that the alleged victims would be concerned about their safety if Smith is released.
