Veteran journalist Carl Hoffman believes he’s solved one of the great mysteries of the 20th century. In 1961 at the age of 23, Michael Rockefeller – son of New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller and a member of one of the richest and most powerful families in America ¬– travelled to remote New Guinea in search of primitive art for his father’s new museum.
Ohio Attempt At ‘Personhood’ Amendment Falls Short
An anti-abortion group in Ohio has fallen short in its attempt to gather enough signatures to change the state constitution to declare that life begins when a human egg is fertilized.
Patrick Johnston is the director of Personhood Ohio. He said Tuesday that the group had collected only about 33,000 of the roughly 385,000 signatures required for November ballots.
Backers of the proposed constitutional amendment in Ohio and elsewhere hope to spark a legal challenge to the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that gave women a legal right to abortion.
Supporters in Ohio hoped to alleviate concerns that the amendment could make some birth control illegal and deter in vitro fertilization. They had phrased their proposed amendment to say it wouldn’t affect “genuine contraception” or in vitro procedures.
