American Electric Power says it’s shifting to emergency operating procedures due to continued power outages and on-going high temperatures.

AEP wants Columbus area customers to conserve power until 7 o’clock tonight by turning off all unnecessary appliances and lighting. The company says if conservation is not enough to reduce the demand for power…it will create additional outages.

AEP is asking customers to reduce air conditioning and electric water heater use, turn off all unnecessary televisions and computers.
