The quality of police training academies in Ohio and the need for stronger statewide training standards are among the issues an attorney general’s committee is considering as it explores possible changes to the way Ohio trains police officers.
Ohio Gets New Software To Better Track Emergencies
Ohio disaster officials have started using a new Web-based program to more efficiently track and respond to severe weather and other crises, and they’re giving counties access to the software.
The Ohio Emergency Management Agency began using WebEOC last year. Officials say the software makes it easier to assess damage, needs and available resources. They can also address problems more quickly. It consolidates information that was once exchanged in a more time-consuming jumble of phone calls, notes, faxes, emails or shouts across the room.
Some Ohio counties already use it. The state is giving others access this year. It’s starting with pilot efforts in Lucas, Ottawa and Union counties.
Some federal agencies also use the program. So do 37 other states, including Indiana, Kentucky and Pennsylvania.
