While casino construction in Cincinnati came to a halt following a structural collapse, construction is ahead of schedule in Columbus.

Spokesman for casino developer Penn National Gaming, Bob Tenenbaum says both casinos that his company is building in Columbus and Toledo are under different contractors than the other 2 sites that have had construction collapses.

“We’re putting $400 million into the casino in Columbus and when you are investing that kind of money in a community, one of the most important things you think about is proper construction and safety,” says Tenenbaum.

Tenenbaum says construction at the Hollywood Casino Columbus on the city’s west side will finish sooner than expected.

“Our contractors here are among and in Toledo are among the best known in their cities. Construction is a difficult process but if it’s done right you don’t run into these situations,” says Tenenbaum.

The Hollywood Casino Columbus could open by Thanksgiving.

So…the AMOUNT OF THINKING about proper construction and safety is directly proportional to the AMOUNT OF MONEY Penn National Gaming invests in a “community project” — Is anyone else out there bothered by that sort of verbiage as I am???

The proposed amendment called for relocating the Columbus-area casino; one of the four casinos locations that were approved in the November 3, 2009 statewide election. The alternate location for the casino was the former Delphi Corp. auto-parts plant.
