Officials in Dayton are aiming to capitalize on backlash against a religious-objections law in neighboring Indiana that critics say could permit discrimination against gays and lesbians.
Two Indicted In Open House Theft Scheme
Listen to the Story
Two people have been indicted of charges of theft after prosecutors say they targeted houses for sale.
Prosecutors say during one week in August, Michael Shipley and Crystal Galloway targeted at least six houses around the county. In each instance, the couple reportedly visited an open house, then split up while one person distracted the realtor and the other ransacked the home for valuables.
Prosecutors say their scheme netted more than $12,000.
Shipley and Galloway have each been charged with 10 counts, including burglary and theft. If convicted on all charges, they could each face more than 50 years in prison.
