With harsh cold and snow forecast for much of the state in the next few days, officials in Ohio’s Department of Aging are urging precautions for older people who could be at increased risk of weather-related problems.
Season Starts For Ohio Program Offering Heat Help
Though it’s only the start of November, an annual program has restarted to help poor and elderly Ohioans with their winter heating bills.
The state’s Home Energy Assistance Program offers an emergency benefit between November and March if a household has been disconnected, is threatened with a loss of heat service, or has less than a 10-day supply of bulk fuel.
Households qualify based on income guidelines.
A single person must have earned $5,445 or less during the past three months, while a family of four can have quarterly income of no more than $11,175.
