Ohio Occupation Protest Grow, Spead
Ohio’s anti-corporate protests, inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement, are growing throughout the state in both size and diversity.
The Vindicator newspaper in Youngstown reports that nearly 300 demonstrators gathered on Saturday in the city’s first protest to rally against corporate greed and Ohio’s contested collective bargaining law.
Democratic state Rep. Robert Hagan told a fired-up crowd that “Wall Street started the war, and we the people will finish it.” In Ohio’s capital city, Occupy Columbus protesters held a rally outside of the statehouse, where demonstrators have been camped out since Monday. Columbus Public Safety Department spokeswoman Amanda Ford estimated that 150 people showed up, which is the largest crowd she had seen.
WKYC-TV in Cleveland reports that occupation activities are spreading to the cities of Akron and Canton as well.
