I-270/161 Intersection Finally Back To Normal
Columbus police have identified the truck driver who died when his gasoline tanker overturned near the I-270/State Route 161 intersection, causing gridlock on much of the northeast side through Tuesday.
Police say 63-year-old Columbus resident Jack Birman was killed when his 2004 International truck flipped and spilled some 3,000 gallons of gasoline. The accident shut down the busy intersection and about 12 miles of freeway through yesterdayâ€™s morning commute.
Many ramps reopened by evening rush hour, and as of Wednesday morning all ramps have reopened.
