The shale gas boom in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and other parts of the Great Lakes region is generating thousands of jobs.

It’s also generating hundreds of millions of gallons of chemical-laced waste water. It has to go somewhere, and that somewhere is increasingly here: Ohio. Tim Rudell of member station WKSU reports on why Ohio is already home to the third greatest number of disposal wells in the country, and is likely to see many more.
