Navy Commander Replaces Lawmaker
A retired Navy commander has been picked to replace a lawmaker who resigned from the Ohio House last month after a drunken driving charge in Indiana came to light.
The House Republican Caucus announced Tuesday that Louis Terhar will take the seat once filled by former state Rep. Robert Mecklenborg of Cincinnati. Mecklenborg pleaded guilty on Aug. 25 to operating a vehicle while intoxicated and was sentenced to probation.
Terhar also is a Cincinnati Republican. He’ll be sworn in Wednesday.
Terhar serves as an adjunct professor at Xavier University. He is an executive board member with the Boy Scouts of America, and has been a CEO of several companies. He’s married to Debe Terhar, who is president of Ohio’s Board of Education.
