Lawmakers, Liberal Group Re-File JobsOhio Suit
Two Democratic state lawmakers and a liberal policy group are re-filing a lawsuit against the private job-creation board JobsOhio.  The suit challenges the law championed by Republican Gov. John Kasich creating an appointed, nine-member board to handle economic development deals.
Justices ruled last week the Ohio Supreme Court was the wrong venue for the case. ProgressOhio, Sen. Mike Skindell, and Rep. Dennis Murray are re-filing in a county court in Columbus. They argue it’s illegal for JobsOhio to invest state money in private companies and to pass bills granting special corporate powers.
Kasich pushed JobsOhio as a way of allowing Ohio to “move at the speed of business” amid high unemployment. He seeks to free officials from constraints faced by the state-run Ohio Department of Development.
