Ohio Highway Patrol Investigates Cellphone Distraction
Listen to the Story
The Ohio Highway patrol this morning said charges are pending against a “distracted driver” involved in a fatal accident on Interstate 71 in Delaware County.
Delaware Patrol Post Sgt. Lance Shearer said 19-year-old Rachael Woodruff was killed as she exited the I-71 rest stop south of the Route 36 interchange. Shearer said her car was T-boned by a northbound driver who crossed three lanes of southbound traffic.
“He became distracted by his cellphone, lost control of his vehicle,” Shearer said. “His vehicle went across the center median and then across all three lanes of the southbound Interstate 71 traffic.”
Shearer said the driver, 32-year-old Joshua Morris was released at the scene. No charges have been filed pending further investigation. Woodruff died after being transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus.
