Ohio Supreme Court Candidates Take “Clean Campaign” Pledge
Listen to the Story
Candidates for Ohio Supreme Court on this fall’s ballot have signed a pledge saying they’ll run clean campaigns. David Crago with the Ohio State Bar Association says the candidates also pledge to denounce dirty messages about their campaigns or candidacies from outside, independent groups.
“Time after time we have encountered ads that have impugned the integrity of the court or have suggested that a candidate might be pre-disposed to decide a case in a certain manner. That really goes to the heart of what we’re trying to do which is to say, look, a judge is not a legislator, a judge is not a governor, they work in a very different way.”
While the candidates can speak out against independent groups over their messages, there’s little that can be done to force the groups to remove the ads.
