In these first two segments, we’re going to learn about Jerrie Mock—and about local artists who helped commemorate the 50th anniversary of her pioneering flight around the world.
Columbus Police Union Meets with Department Heads on Reassignments
Listen to the Story
The Columbus Fraternal Order of Police and the department’s top leaders will meet again Tuesday morning starting at 8 thirty, as they work to find a solution on new precincts for the division and new officer assignments.
The sixth floor of the Franklin County Courthouse is where both sides in the dispute will sit down to work out their differences. The meetings will happen in the rooms behind Judge Sheeran’s courtroom. At issue is how to divide the police department’s precincts to be more effective to citizen calls. Police Chief Walter Distelzweig wants to add a precinct and divide the two largest precincts, one on the North side, the other on the far East side. The plan would shift some officer assignments and schedules. The union says a move like that would violate the current contract. Right now both sides are at least still talking on how to resolve the disagreement.
