Listen to the Story
Air is arriving in earthquake-ravaged Haiti. Air Force Col. Ben McMullin says about 60 planes carrying 2,000 people landed between the time the airport @ Port o Prince reopened yesterday and noon today.
Among the first of those planes was piloted by Lt. Col. Ken Pecoraro of the Mansfield-based 179th airlift wing. He says crews had been at Puerto Rico for a short time when they were placed on alert even before the earthquake hit Haiti on Tuesday afternoon. They landed in Port o Prince just before sunset Wednesday. Speaking from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Lt. Col. Pecoraro says the situation on the ground in Haiti was a little chaotic.
