Ohio Receives Million Dollar Settlement

Ohio has received $1.6 million as part of a settlement in the largest environmental bankruptcy case in U.S. history.

The settlement resolves a claim filed against American Smelting and Refining Company. Run off from the facility contaminated an area near Joyce and 12th Avenues. Money from the settlement will cover remediation of the area and past investigation costs.

American Smelting and Refining Company, a leading U.S. producer of copper, operated on Windsor Avenue from the early 1970s until 1986.
