Columbus Police Officers Approve Contract Agreement
Listen to the Story
Columbus police officers have voted to accept a fact finder’s recommendations concerning their salary and benefits for the next three years.
The city of Columbus and police officers had reached an impasse negotiating a new contract. That’s when the parties brought in an independent fact finder to craft an agreement. Local Fraternal Order of Police president Jim Gilbert says the agreement calls for a 5.5 percent raise over a three-year period.
“We had 1,032 ballots cast from the officer rank and 183 ballots cast from our supervisor rank of members and the membership did not reject the fact finders report,” Gilbert says, “Which means the fact finders decision will be contract language.”
The agreement calls for police personnel to receive bigger raises because the city will contribute less to police pensions.
