The Biological Sciences Greenhouse at OSU has been fortunate to have multiple bloomings of the Titan Arum, aka, the corpse flower. They have its smaller but also smelly cousin, the Voodoo Lily. From its bruise-colored bloom that resembles a corpse, to its stench of rotting flesh, this tropical flower masks its beauty to attract its pollinators.
Ohio Family on a Mission to Visit Forty-eight States
Listen to the Story
Dan and Becky Hirn( and their two children of tiny Delphos, Ohio are spending a year traveling to forty-eight of the nation’s fifty states.
The Hirns say the idea came from their so-called “bucket lists” itemizing the things they hope to do before they die.
So the Ohio State grads planned and saved for two years, arranged for friends to watch their home, put their jobs on hold, took their oldest child out of school and took to the road. They are overseeing a “virtual” education for ten-year old Abby and four-year old Carter as they travel.
WOSU’s Marilyn Smith talked with Becky and Dan Hirn from their latest stop in North Carolina.
