Report Finds Concern in Columbus and other Big Cities about Budget Deficits Next Year

A survey of Columbus and a dozen other big cities shows concern among officials that next year’s budget challenges might be greater than this year’s.

Larry Eichel, project director for the Philadelphia Research Initiative at the Pew Charitable Trust, says Columbus and three other cities relied on major tax increases to balance this year’s budget. And higher taxes did resolve current deficits in Columbus and Atlanta, but problems persist in Philadelphia and New York.
