Republicans in the Ohio Senate are pushing for colleges to cut students’ costs by 5 percent and want the state to set up a drug prison where addicted inmates can get treatment.

New rankings show more Ohio school districts are rated effective or higher. However, the annual grade cards released Tuesday also show the statewide graduation rate fell to 84.6 percent. Many Central Ohio school districts fared well in the ratings.
Critics of that Ohio ballot issue that would authorize casinos in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Toledo are warning it’s written in a way that would let casino operators shield their revenue from taxes. Backers of the proposal say that’s totally untrue.
Lake Erie landowners have won another round in court, in a long battle they’ve been having with environmental groups.
The City Center Mall’s days are officially numbered. The panel that oversees all downtown construction and renovation projects has approved the demolition of the vacant shopping center. The move is the next step in converting the City Center site to a park.
