After years of opposition to the expansion of gambling, Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has announced a plan for slots machines at seven horse racing tracks as a way to help balance the budget.
Ohio’s unemployment rate has climbed further, one month after crossing into double digits for the first time in more than a quarter century. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported today that the state’s jobless rate in May was 10.8 percent, up from 10.2 percent in April.
