Listen to the Story
Citing the rising number of layoffs, Ohio officials are offering a booklet to residents who have recently lost a job. Dennis Ginty is a spokesman for the Commerce Department. He says out of conern for the state’s current jobless rate of 9.7%, the Departments of Commerce and Job and Family Services are making available a 16 page booklet written by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.
The booklet offers ways to take control of finances, explore available financial resources, locate and use jobless services and guard against financial fraud.
Ginty says scam artists follow news stories about mass layoffs in hopes of gaining control of someone’s 401K funds for severance pay.
