Mansfield Prison Guards Optimistic Conditions Will Improve

A spokesman for the union that represents prison guards working at state lockups says he’s optimistic that conditions will improve at the Mansfield Correctional Institution.

Andy Douglas says union leaders have met with the leaders of Ohio’s Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and are optimistic that conversation will bring about safer working conditions for guards at the prisons.

Douglas says prison officials said they understood the union’s concerns.

The union has been warning of conditions that members think could lead to another situation like the Lucasville prison riot of 1993.
