Two Columbus Police Officers Suffer Gunshot Wounds.
Listen to the Story
Two Columbus police officers are reported in stable condition this morning and undergoing surgery at Grant Medical Center. The officers suffered gunshot wounds while trying to serve warrants at an East Rich Street address.
Columbus police spokesman Rich Weiner says the injured officers were part of a larger narcotics tactical unit when they went to 17-hundred block of East Rich Street to serve a warrant at a suspected drug house.
“As they were preparing to enter the residence, the officers came under fire. There were two cover officers that did their jobs. They returned fire as other members of that unit came up and dragged the two officers out of the line of fire.” Says Weiner.
Weiner adds that all the occupants of the house were taken into custody and are being questioned by detectives. Several handguns were recovered at the scene. Weiner says both officers were longtime veterans of the Columbus Division of Police.
