OSU freshman dies in accidental shooting
Friends and family are mourning the death of an Ohio State University freshman who was killed in an accidental shooting.
Police 18-year-old Marissa Plakosh died early Saturday morning at her home in Poland, Ohio after she was shot with her brother’s gun.
Police say a family friend was handling the gun when it accidentally fired.
20-year-old Daniel Buccino is charged with negligent homicide. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
Police say Buccino was unfamiliar with the handgun which was legally owned by the victim’s brother, Michael Plakosh who is also an OSU student.
The family told the Youngstown vindicator that Michael bought the gun because burglars had broken into his apartment near the OSU campus.
The Plakosh’s were home on winter break.
Poland Township is a community of about 15,000 people just south of Youngstown.
