Legislative watchdog says former lawmaker broke ethics law
Listen to the Story
The state’s legislative watchdog says a former lawmaker broke Ohio ethics laws when he lobbied the state to reduce insurance rates for his gas station business.
Legislative Inspector General Tony Bledsoe says in a report out today that former state Senator Jeffry Armbruster wrongly used his position to seek the lower workers’ compensation premiums.
Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien says he is preparing to seek charges against Armburster, a suburban Cleveland Republican who left office last year.
State law bars public officials from using their authority to obtain compensation or appearing before state agencies to receive personal benefit.
An attorney for Armbruster says the former senator wasn’t being paid by his gas station business during the time he spoke with state workers’ comp officials.
