Ohio Secretary of State Takes Control of Cuyahoga County Elections Board

Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has taken control of the Cuyahoga County Elections Board as part of an effort to change how the troubled board is run.

Brunner announced Monday that she is placing the board under state administrative oversight through the end of next year.State oversight means Brunner must approve any board changes to policy and procedure.

Brunner, a Democrat who took office in January, has forced three board members to resign and is fighting to remove a fourth, Republican Bob Bennett.

Brunner accuses the board of shoddy election work in the state’s most populous county, including election glitches and cost problems.
