For the past several years The Community Shelter Board has tried to find out just how many people in Columbus don’t have a place to call home. Thursday morning about 100 volunteers braved the cold winds to try to get an accurate count. But the census faces criticism faces criticism from local advocates.
Now that federal funds have run out, the State of Ohio has halted destroying ash trees infested with the Emerald Ash Borer and has confined efforts to locating infestations and studying the trees’ decline. About a quarter of Ohio counties are under quarantine because of the insect. But some Ohioans are fighting back with insecticides to try to save their trees.
Many Americans belive crooked behavior is the norm in Washington. From Capitol Hill, Chad Pergram examines the allure of power in the capital and what makes politicians go wrong.
Dr. Michelle Gonzalez has an office in Dublin but she sees patients all over the state. In March, Gonzalez began operating RASCAL, a surgical animal hospital on wheels. Since the first clinic last April, Gonzalez has sterilized about 3,500 cats and dogs. She goes to places where residents don’t make much money or where there’s a shortage of veterinary care.
