Members of Columbus’ Somali community today are commemorating the one-year anniversary of a controversial shooting. 23-year-old Nasir Abdi was shot and killed by a Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy last year while officers where trying to take him for treatment. Deputies say he was armed. But some witnesses say they did not see a weapon and the shooting was unnecessary.
2006 saw Ohio put in place new rules for how people cast their ballots and how activists could get their issues before voters.
Ohio Lawmakers passed many significant pieces of legislation during 2006. Ohio Public Radio’s Bill Cohen has a review of the bills that became law during the past year.

The Ohio Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that sometimes, when workers cause their OWN on-the-job injuries, they can be denied workers compensation benefits. An attorney who often represents injured workers says it is a terrible new precedent. A business group says it is not but it is still a good ruling.
