Yearly tuition for most Ohio State University undergraduates will surpass $8,000 this fall.

Officials are proposing a 6% increase, the highest allowed by state law. They say that will add $477 to the typical student’s tuition bill.

The school’s budget and finance chief says OSU needs the additional money to cover rising costs for technology, energy and salaries and benefits.

University trustees will take a look at the proposal later today and are expected to take a vote next month.

Students complain no one is asking them how they feel about paying more. Undergraduate Student Government President Ryan Fournier says the higher tuition is going to hurt.
