A federal jury Friday sentenced 30-year-old Daryl Lawrence to death for the shooting death of a Columbus police officer. Officer Bryan Hurst died while exchanging gunfire with Lawrence at a Fifth Third Bank on E. Broad St. on January 6th, 2005.

Timothy Howard and another man were wrongfully convicted of robbing a Columbus bank and killing a guard in 1976. After spending more than 25 years in prison, the two were freed. Now they’re suing the state for compensation. After a brief recess, Howard’s trial resumed again today.
