Eric Fingerhut quits campaign for governor
Congressman Ted Strickland appears to be on his way to winning the Democratic nomination for Ohio governor.
He’s the only major Democrat left in the race now that State Senator Eric Fingerhut of Cleveland is dropping out.
Fingerhut informed supporters of his decision Monday, posting a letter on his campaign Web site. He plans to formally withdraw from the race at a news conference Tuesday.
Fingerhut says in his Web posting that he ended his campaign because he was well behind the $3-million that Strickland has raised from donors.
Attorney General Jim Petro and Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell appear to be the only Republican hopefuls who will meet Thursday’s filing deadline for the May second gubernatorial primary.
