Investigation Begins in Officer-Involved Shooting
An investigation is underway in a fatal officer-involved shooting in Columbus’ Somali community. Columbus Police report that Franklin County Sheriff Deputy Jason Evans was forced to shoot 23 year old Nasir Abdi after Abdi allegedly made “violent slashes” with a knife at Evans and Deputy Mike Wiley.
Abdi was transported to Grant Medical Center where he later died. The two deputies were called to Abdi’s apartment on Cassady Village Trail to take him to a psychiatric facility.
Columbus Police were called to the scene after the confrontation between Abdi and the deputies. They were confronted by members of an angry crowd.
Deputies Evans and Wiley will take personal leave during the investigation into the shooting.
