Taft faces criminal charges
Governor Taft has been criminally charged with violating state ethics laws. Franklin County prosecutor Ron O’Brien announced Wednesday afternoon the governor faces 4 misdemeanor charges for failing to disclose golf outings and other favors.
Prosecutors say the governor failed to disclose a total of 52 items over a four year period. Each year’s failure to report resulted in a separate charge.
Taft becomes the first Ohio governor to face criminal charges while in office.
Governor Taft says he takes full responsibility for failing to disclose the outings. He and his attorney say the omissions were inadvertent.
Taft is expected to be arraigned in court Thursday morning.
