Memorial Monday for Ohio Marines
A community-wide memorial service is planned tonight in the Cleveland area for Iraq war casualties from the Brook Park Marine Corps Reserve Center.
The service will be held at the I-X convention center in Brook Park. Organizers are preparing for up to 30-thousand people.
This morning the American flag at the main entrance to the I-X center was lowered to half-staff. A digital screen the size of a movie theater screen showed images of a flag waving in the wind.
The Brook Park-based 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines lost 16 men in recent fighting. Nine of those killed were from the Columbus-based Lima Unit.
Governor Bob Taft declared today an official day of mourning for the state of Ohio, asking residents to pause and remember those who have died in battle and those who are currently fighting.
