Highway Shooter Case Moves Toward Trial
29 year old Charles McCoy has pleaded innocent by reason of insanity to 24 felony counts including a charge of aggravated murder. He remains in the Franklin County jail while trial preparations proceed.
McCoy’s trial date is scheduled for April 8th. A pool of 100 or more potential jurors would be summoned. Defense attorney Michael Miller says potential jurors would be questioned in groups for possible seating on a jury.
At the core of the case is whether the defendant was mentally competent at the time the shootings took place. Two psychiatric reports on McCoy’s competency have already been submitted to the court…one ordered by the prosecution and one ordered by the defense.
Another pre-trial conference is scheduled for March 22nd.
