The Biological Sciences Greenhouse at OSU has been fortunate to have multiple bloomings of the Titan Arum, aka, the corpse flower. They have its smaller but also smelly cousin, the Voodoo Lily. From its bruise-colored bloom that resembles a corpse, to its stench of rotting flesh, this tropical flower masks its beauty to attract its pollinators.
Reducing mercury pollution – no easy task
Mercury pollution in Ohio has been documented for years by the US Envrionmental Protection Agency.
To reduce the chances of exposure, the federal EPA urges consumers to limit the consumption of fish taken from the state’s rivers and streams.
Regardless, it’s uncertain how quickly or how thoroughly mercury contamination in the envrionment will be reduced.
