Monday Morning Roundup – Sen. Brown’s Challengers
Coughlin in, Others in Wings
Republicans looking to unseat US Senator Sherrod Brown are starting to get more serious. Late last week State Senator Kevin Coughlin announced his bid for the GOP nomination in – what else – a YouTube video.
The other two big names out there are State Treasurer Josh Mandel of Bexley. The Plain Dealer reports Mandel is traveling far and wide raising money for his bid, but he has not officially announced yet.
The other big name, perhaps the biggest, is still being coy, even “Sarah Palin” coy. Ken Blackwell tells the PD he won’t announce his intentions until Independence Day. In the meantime he has a book to sell.
All the while a new poll (albeit it left-leaning) has Brown ahead by double digits.
National Takes on Tressel Departure
The resignation / dismissal of Jim Tressel is still the subject of national media analysis. Here are some of the more thoughtful ones.
- The New York Times looked at OSU missteps during the investigation in a piece titled: In Tressel Aftermath, Defense and Regret.
- The Washington Post blog suggests Jim Tressel catered to his blue-chip players in a piece titled Blinded By Stars.
- Ann Arbor.com calls Tressel’s resignation the “End of an Era”. – You think? Look carefully at this piece. After the third paragraph there’s an ad for a job search site: “Don’t click here if you enjoy being unemployed.”
