Who’s the Greater Gatsby?
DiCaprio? Â Redford? Â How can you compare them? Â Well, DiCaprio’s Gatsby is still in the theatres, while Redford’s Gatsby returns to the silver screen tonight (Wednesday) opposite Mia Farrow in the 1974 version of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s mysterious Gatsby as part of CAPA’s 43rd annual Summer Movie Series. Â (For the record, does music by Jay-Z, Beyonce, will.i.am, Fergie, Gotye, and Florence and the Machine fit in a movie set in the 1920s? Â Just sayin’)
As always, the Mighty Morton Theatre Organ ascends from the depths of the Ohio Theatre with Clark Wilson at the keyboard in his 22nd season with the series. Â If you are a theatre organ enthusiast, you’ll want to check out the radio program Pipedreams, which did a feature on theatre organs all across Ohio, including the Mighty Morton.
Whether you like the Redford or DiCaprio version of Gatsby, the CAPA Summer Movie Series is always a great reason to head down and check out the beautiful Ohio Theatre. Â If you’d like to learn more about a theatre we nearly lost to the wrecking ball, there is a free tour scheduled for August 17th at 4pm. Â The hour-long tour is conducted by a docent, who will give you the inside scoop. Â Reservations are required and space is limited. Â Send a reservation request by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with the number of people in your party. Tours do include stairs. Â Reservations are first-come, first-served.
The Summer Movie Series runs through August 22nd.
