Artists from across the world and music genres have joined forces to aid Japan after an earthquake and tsunami devastated the country on March 11, 2011.

Deutsche Grammophon and Decca Classics have released Classics for Japan – Music for Healing. Proceeds will go to the Japanese Red Cross Society.

This compilation (available online only) features music of Mozart, Beethoven, Massenet  and others performed by some of Japan’s most well known classical musicians: pianist Mitsuko Uchida, conductor Seiji Ozawa, pianist Alice Sara Ott and violinist Akiko Suwanai.

Another compilation, Songs for Japan, featuring tracks from over 30 of the biggest names in rock and pop music can be purchased from iTunes or Amazon.com
