Bach on Banjo plus Concerto for Four Guitars on Fretworks

We’ll ring in the official start of summer on the next Fretworks program with banjo player extraordinaire Bela Fleck and his arrangement of J. S. Bach’s Prelude from the Violin Partita No. 3, a dazzling piece for any instrument. For a calmer musical experience, guitarist David Leisner will have American composer Lou Harrison’s lovely Serenade.

To celebrate the occasion, this evening on Symphony @ 7, we’ll have music that’s faster than a speeding baton and able to leap tall octaves in a single bound, the Superman comics-inspired Metropolis Symphony will be our featured offering.

Mandolins, Lute and Guitar on Next Fretworks

On Saturday evening at 7 on Classical 101, the next Fretworks will include a mandolin orchestra, the International Mandolin Academy Orchestra. They are an ensemble made up of musicians from Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Japan, and Canada. They’ll play a Samba by contemporary composer Stefano Squarzino.
