And if you don’t yet know the Upper Arlington Public Library….come on down!
Sundays 2 PM
June 23 Verdi: Rigoletto some of opera’s best “Oh-I’-know-this” tunes in this tragedy of the haunted court jester at the court of the Duke of Mantua. We’ll see a production from the Zurich Opera, a 2008 performance with Leo Nucci, Piotr Beczala and Elena Mosuc. Nello Santi, the last of the great Italian maestri, conducts.
June 30 Mozart: The Magic Flute Ingmar Bergman’s film of Mozart’s fairy tale opera, filmed onstage at the 18th century Dottningholm Court Theater in Stockholm.
July 14Â Massenet Manon: A young girl is sent off to a convent, but is side tracked by the good life in Paris, including elderly rich lovers, a boyfriend who threatens to become a priest, a gambling house and death of the road to exile in Louisiana. What’s not to love? From the Paris Opera, with Renee Fleming and Marcelo Alvarez.
July 21 Puccini: Tosca The action covers on day in Rome in June 1800. Opera diva Floria Tosca tries to save her lover from the secret police. Attempted rape, murder, execution and suicide ensue. The music is great and so are the sets and costumes. From the Royal Opera, London with Angela Gheroghiu, Bryn Terfel and Jonas Kaufman.
