Cellist Steven Sharp Nelson says the cello is cool. And he and The Piano Guys are trying to prove it by inserting the cello in pop-culture contexts and setting it loose, according to a story in Utah’s Deseret News.
In Cello Wars, above, Nelson and a fellow Piano Guy draw light sabres across the strings of electric cellos in “dueling cellos”-style combat. The video, which has garnered almost four million views on YouTube since being posted in December 2011, followed Nelson’s “Cello Song,” posted on YouTube in June 2011, a jazzed-up, eight-cello version of the prelude from Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1:
