Visual art and music blends this weekend as ProMusica Chamber Orchestra teams with the Columbus Museum of Art this Saturday .

You’ll go on a musical tour of the Big Idea Gallery with a  ProMusica musician as your guide, where you’ll hear some great music and learn more about color in music and art.

There is a term known as synesthesia, which is a mixing of sensations.  Some musicians and composers experience it through a combination of sound and color…”seeing” certain notes or sounds as various hues, or hearing certain musical sounds upon seeing various colors or combinations of colors.

Joan Tower spoke of this when we discussed her Purple Rhapsody.  Michael Torke wrote a series of pieces with colorful titles.  Bright Blue Music and Ecstatic Orange, to name a couple.

Who knows, YOU might experience your own visual symphony as you tour the Big Idea Gallery with ProMusica at the Columbus Museum of Art this Saturday.  The twenty-minute tours are at 1:00 pm, 1:30 pm, and 2:00 pm.  There is no additional charge.  For details, visit ProMusica’s Facebook page here.
