Haute Music – Classical Music’s Top Designer
One of Europe’s “luxury” men’s clothiers, Ermenegildo Zegna, not only outfits some of the worlds best-dressed athletes and businessmen, but also many conductors and top-tier musicians.
Zegna has designed a special suit for leading representatives of the international music scene like Placido Domingo, Juan Diego Flóres, Valery Gergiev, Evgeny Kissin, and Yundi Li. Special fabrics and linings are designed to keep performers cool and “uncreased.” A sleeve-joint designed for ease of arm movement “safeguard[s] the garment’s sense of style.”
What does beautiful clothing have to do with supporting classical music? Zegna and Maestro Gergiev began working together in 1997 when Zegna established the Zegna and Mariinsky New Talents Award: a scholarship given out every year to four talents in support of intensive studies in various musical/theatrical disciplines.
Zegna has teamed with many other organizations to to that end.
So next time you see one of these world-class musicians on stage, take note of their outfit, or buy one yourself. You might be supporting the next Domingo!
