Classical Hip Hop Group Black Violin
You might not think Dmitri Shostakovich and 50 Cent have much in common. But according to violinist Wil B, you’d be wrong.
Shostakovich’s music lets you “feel the story of where he came from,” Wil B said in an interview with LjWorld.
Telling those stories is what Wil B and fellow musician Kev Marcus aim to do through their classical hip hop violin duo, Black Violin.
The pair met in a Florida performing arts high school and, when not playing the Three B’s in the school orchestra, were out listening to the jazz violinist Stuff Smith, whose Black Violin album became the duo’s namesake.
Black Violin has played Harlem’s Apollo Theater and taken its act to venues around the world.
