Ballet Suite for Mandolin Orchestra on Next Fretworks
On Saturday evening at 7 on Classical 101, the next Fretworks will feature the German mandolin orchestra, Fidium Concentus, with ballet music from Gluck’s Don Juan. Other ensemble pieces will include the Guitar Quintet No. 5 of Luigi Boccherini with Pepe Romero and the Academy Chamber Ensemble and music of Isaac Albeniz played by the New Pro Arte Guitar Trio.
Among the solo offerings, we have Pepe’s brother Angel Romero for Theme and Variations on a Japanese Folksong “Sakura” by Yuquijiro Yocoh. Eliot Fisk will play his arrangement of music of Domenico Scarlatti.
To let you have an idea of what a whole orchestra of mandolins sounds like, I found this example with a different group, also from Germany. (Watch above)
