Tucci’s Patio Offers One of Columbus’ Best Patios, Confident Food

It was a beautiful evening on the patio in Old Dublin, with blue skies, temperatures in the 70s, and pleasant music in the background. This was the setting for our two visits to Tucci’s, one of Craig Barnum’s stable of restaurants.

We scored the last table on the busy patio, and even with a musical duo, we were able to have a conversation. We settled in with a bottle of Orin Swift Locations Italia, a great value at $35.

Our group of four shared a variety of appetizers and small plates, including the excellent gazpacho ($6); seared scallops with coconut risotto cakes, roasted orange vanilla sauce, and micro greens ($18); beet salad with arugula, egg, gorgonzola, candied walnuts, Asian pear, and balsamic vinaigrette ($9)

We also had a large half portion of vegetable risotto with butternut squash, mushroom, seasonal vegetables, herbed boursin cheese, and fried sage ($12); veal meatloaf, gorgonzola-brown sugar glaze, green beans, whipped Yukon gold potatoes, and capicola-shiitake mushroom gravy (entree $18).

We had an excellent server and enjoyed some “wine chat” with knowledgeable Wine Steward Bruce Abbott, who proudly showed us the cellar.

The rest of the menu includes 9 appetizers, from $7 to $20; 3 soups, from $6 to $7; 4 salads, from $6 to $9; 4 pasta dishes, from $12 to $18; 4 “Classics,” from $18 to $30; 4 fish dishes, from $25 to $32; and 5 steak and chop dishes, from $18 to $34.

Tucci’s lunch menu is one of the best values in town, especially the lunch combo, with your choice of two items from among 7 soups and salads and 7 sandwiches and pasta dishes for only $9.

Tucci’s really seems to have hit its stride, with a confident kitchen, casual ambience, a terrific wine list, and one of Columbus’ best patios.
